Guest guest
Well, lil' senorita, as David Swenson says in his manual, you don't have to be a "tight-ass" to practice mula bandha :-)! Now, I'm a guy, so mula bandha for me means learning to contract and hold the perineal muscle. As I understand it, it's different for women, though. I might as well just copy the pertinent info right from the book, rather than trying to explain it myself. "In females, the location (of mula bandha) is near the top of the cervix...You may utilize a technique given to women to assist in the toning of the pelvic floor after childbirth. It is calles the Keigel technique. While urinating, engage the muscles of the pelvic floor and stop the flow of urine and then release the contraction and let it flow again. This contraction will engage more muscles than necessary but over time you may learn to refine the action so that it is more specifically focused." David Life wrote an article about mula bandha in Yoga Journal last year (don't know what issue it was), with a pretty graphic description of how this process works in women. Several people here have also recommended the book "Mula Bandha: The Master Key," which also sound like an excellent source.

Guest guest
Mulabandha is an ancient technique developed amongst the native indians of the mexican mountains. It is a precisely choreographed way of taking hold of a donkeys ears so as to control the direction of its movement. When the spaniards came and appropriated everything they called it mulabanda. Its internal aspect involved tightening the anus as a precaution against inadvertent bowel movement following the inevitable unseating that occurs to foolish riders of donkeys who pull on their ears. Please refer to Yogakorunta p.108, line 108.
Guest guest
Whereas as a matter of proven fact the Mulha Banda was a moslem sage in the latter years of the life of the prophet himself who taught a subtle esoteric technique for transforming sand into drops of water that then recrystalized as a single verse from the koran, by filtering it vertically up the anal canal while squatting with the metatarsals fully extended, ribcage distended, robes flung over the head to activate invisibility and a hand over the mouth to hide the squeals of delight that this very difficult (but exquisitely delicious) technique engenders only in those of a karmically endowed sensitive disposition, and who do pranayama for 108 rounds, with an even rhythm of inhale 108 grains, hold 108 grains, exhale 108 grains, hold 108 grains, at exactly 3.13 am . Please do not refer to yogakorunta…its been eaten by ants who heard that if they could filter one sutra of it through their digestive system at a similar rhythm they would be reborn in the west as accomplished yogis. And they were. (you are one) Of course, the wonders of this technique can only be experienced by the elect, and we are few and far between. Guest guest
The only problem is that I've lost that really great strength:bodyweight ratio somewhere in the transition. It's also funny you mention the mexican indigenous, the origins of mulabanda and the south end of an ass because that is precisely where David did most of his research for his book.

FBL
Guest guest
Thanks for the insight !

I take it that Mula Bandha has nothing to do with yoga and is just a guru's joke...well I hope some other people took the Guru seriously and are trying to squeeze.

By the way - Janu Sirsasana B is supposed to stimulate Mula Bandha - yes, according to our gracious Guru, you do sit on the heel and that should help with the experience. Swenson has spent little time in Mysore the last 25 yrs.
Guest guest
You may start by holding mula bunda for a few seconds during your “inhales." Gradually overtime you will become more sensitive to the contraction and will be able to hold it for longer periods. It is a very subtle energy lock.
