Guest guest
There's an article from "Hinduism Today" on vagrant artists turned yogis David Life & Sharon Gannon at http://www.hinduismtoday.com/1999/3/#gen383 ..

It's not Ashtanga, but the article makes highly interesting reading nonetheless (and it's not too long, I promise). Guest guest
For some reason, the link on the website doesn't connect to the article, I scanned down the whole issue and it doesn't seem to be included. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
FBL
Guest guest
FBL:

Try this link

http://www.hinduismtoday.com/1999/3/

Let the whole page load and then search for Gannon and you should find the article. Guest guest
funky,

Look for the article in the "TRENDS" section with the title: "Yoga's New Posture/ Jivamukti Yoga Center's Indian spirituality gives you more than just exercise". Guest guest
bad lady,

There's a search engine at http://www.gurudeva.dynip.com/~htoday/htdig_search.html . Search for "gannon", then "Gannon".
However, it is possible that you will not get any connection to the article this way either. You can then still scroll down the page at http://www.hinduismtoday.com/1999/3/ to the title I gave you in my previous post. May be quite a hassle, but the article is VERY good.

Yours in Yoga.
Guest guest
For a definitive look at David Life & Sharon Gannon check out their video _What is Yoga_. You can pick it up at their website, or do what I did, rent it at Tower. David Life is amazing demonstrating his asana practice. The video is good in that it has a relaxed feel to it, the viewer gets to just hang with David and Sharon while they talk about yoga.

A video to avoid is their _Asana ~ Sacred Dance of the Yogis_... David Life and Sharon Gannon doing some sort of free-form asana dances... it only made me feel totally embarassed for them! Sorry, but they should have left that one in the can. Guest guest
If the 1st video is the one with Willem DaFoe, I agree it's very good. I have to say though that Life comes across much better than Gannon does.
Guest guest
I would agree that the What is Yoga video is well worth seeing. I recommend checking it out. Lots of cool footage of asana practice and lots of interesting discussion about yoga. Willem Dafoe and Bhagavan Das are featured as well as David and Sharon.

And I would agree that the other one, Sacred Dance of the Yogis, is not one that most people would really need to see. Guest guest
There was a good story about Bhagavan Das a couple of years ago in Yoga Journal. He was a California surfer boy that went to India to surf and became a devoted yogi under some notable gurus... returned to the US to become a darling of rock stars, appearing at big outdoor shows onstage to chant and sing. He then succumed to the late 60s excesses and was watching TV all strung -out one night in the early seventies when he saw a televanglist who saved his soul for Jesus, then and there in the glow the the TV screen. Then he became a BMW dealer in L.A. in the 80s, becoming quite wealthy but blowing it all on coke. Somehow thru all this he managed to get back to his roots with the help, I believe, of his wife, Uma Nanda Saraswati who is now a teacher at Jivamukti.
