Guest guest
Whats your opinion of the Yoga Korunta story? Do you think it actually existed and the story is true or do you think it is just a myth? Where is it now? Has anyone ever seen it? Why didn't his teacher, K, ever mention it in his writings? Guest guest
6 years agao i was given a copy of a document entitled: 'Salutations to the Guru and to The Eternal One' attributed to T. Krishnamacahrya.

It contains at least two references to the Yoga Korunta. Its contents could quite easily be seen as a link between the system taught by KPJ and that taught by Desikachar. All postures are given with entering and leaving vinyasas: an asana clearly being not just a destination. No sequencing is given.

Also, it seems, there are vaults in both the Mysore Palace and Oriental libraries in Mysore that are accessible only to Bhramins and those who have been initiated into their lineages. This would explain why an industrious western (outcaste) researcher would not come up with the goods.

A lack of visible evidence for something is not proof of its nonexistence. Guest guest
Thanks for that informative post Godfrey,an initiate of caste would be much more likely to gain access. Many of us are looking forward to reading whatever you are currently working on, sutra commentary?
Guest guest
Great. Could you please post the references for us here? I am sure we would all love to see them.

By the way, does Jois ever talk about the Korunta and it's existance today?
Guest guest
I dont know Jois, but BNS Iyengar is quite clear about its existence and that at one time at least there was a copy (NOT THE ORIGINAL) in the Mysore Palace Library. In a special vault full of yoga texts. Not having access I am not in a position to verify this.

Guest guest
I just remembered that the university of california library (@Berkeley) had a copy of a K book...I don't recall much about the contents however.
Guest guest
Are you saying that a copy of the Yoga Korunta is at the UC Berkeley library? I would be very suprised to find a copy anywhere, let alone in an American library. Actually I would be very suprised if the Korunta actually existed. Guest guest
Its a worn copy of "Yoga Mala" written in the original Kannada. I checked it out several years ago via an inter library loan from my local library.
Guest guest
No, I'm saying that a book authored by or about Krishnamacharya is at a UC Berkeley library. I think a search on the MELVYL system should turn it up...being able to access a copy through interlibrary loan might be pretty difficult though.
