Guest guest Posted January 10, 2001 Report Share Posted January 10, 2001 <<<<<Midnight in Chelsea...candlelight,boah...men only..."naked before the infinite",pah...most are gay...hum...<br>But isn't all that somewhat testing to the Brahmacharia aspect of Naked Yoga sadhana?>>>>><br><br>ah, my kapalbhati friend, yours was once the most frequent of frequently asked questions. less and less though. just like it became hip to "do yoga," now it's hip to "get naked." that lovely pendulum keeps on swingin'! i used to not even mention this aspect of our practice as it seemed to have the capacity to distract -- but i realized it was no obstacle to the appreciative. communal digambara (sky-clad) practice is not for everybody, certainly not for those who cannot begin to handle being naked in front of others, for whom nudity is either an overwhelming fetish or phobia. but for those comfortable with their sexuality (however it plays out) and comfortable with their physical manifestation generally, who can embrace renunciation of worldly accoutrements, who know the bliss of humility, of ishwara pranidhana - surrender to infinite pure consciousness (our true nature), and who understand the body and mind as illusory projections, or who say "i'll give it a shot" to any of the above, it is not so daunting an ordeal -- not even a minor consideration.<br><br>the titillating assumption that gay men cannot be naked together without being sexual is not unique to nongays. but limiting accurate thought by stereotyping, internally or externally, while perhaps briefly entertaining is never useful in the long run, don't you agree? (cf advidya, under kleshas, in patanjali, 2.4.) all human bodies distract each other by design, evoking instinctual responses in a wide variety of sensual ways. men, gay or straight, not constantly reacting to any taboo against same-gender shared sensuality tend to be more at ease with this idea than others, upon whom custom, politics, target marketing, fuzzy thinking and uncontrolled hormones will always have their effects.<br><br>cont'd>>>>> Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
