Guest guest
Hello all,
if a woman has a thrombosis in the right knee-aerea, what about yoga? The thrombus is still inside, and the leg is a little bit swollen(?), she can walk along, but it's unsecure what about the postthrombotic syndrom. Any advice welcome. Guest guest
lu,

I don't think that it is adviseable to do Ashtanga Yoga if suffering a thrombosis. The Iyengar approach might be a much safer bet in this case.

Please note that I am no medical expert, so that I can only give you my personal view here. But I guess that all inverted postures, i.e. Sirsasana, Sarvangasana etc. are very good for healing a thrombosis. In Iyengar Yoga there is also a posture called Viparita Karani which, if done in a supported fashion against a wall and with the help of a bolster, might even be ideal.

I would recommend you the following books, which deal with special medical conditions and which are all excellent:

Mira Mehta:
1. How to use Yoga
2. Yoga - The Iyengar Way

Suza Francina:
The New Yoga for People Over 50 (wonderful book; although I don't belong to its target readership - I am young and healthy still - it's actually one of my favourites on yoga: this book is full of wisdom, and full of truth.)

The last two books are also available in German.
