Guest guest
I am wondering what Guruji uses to decide when someone is ready to go onto Second Series. I heard through someone that you need to be able to stand up in backbends on your own? Is this what the certified teachers use as the standard? & I don't mean for just a really flexible person who walks in and whizzes thru the Primary but doesn't have the endurance for the practice yet -- but for someone who has been consistently practicing Primary for some years? Guest guest
Good question. I've heard some folks say (on this board I think) that he has no single criterion, that the decision is based on one's total practice.

My backbends are lousy, but I've been told, by close student sof KPJ, to get into 2nd series. So if there is a litmus test that is communicated to other teachers, then standing up from urdhva dhanurasana probably isn't it.

Guy would know, I suppose.

By the way, best wishes in getting some ashtanga started in Ithaca. I might spend a sabbatical in Ithaca the year after next, and I'm hoping for some classes while there.

Peace and Good,
Homer
