Guest guest
Just got a couple of really cool new videos from the Sewell Archive (mauiyoga.com). One is a primary series class led by Pattabhi Jois when he was in Hawaii on the 2000 world tour. The other one is a class led by David Life when visiting Hawaii. I added these to my list of Ashtanga videos:

http://www.ionet.net/~tslade/yogavid.htm

-----------------\ -----------
Here is the info on these videos that I added to that page:

World Tour 2000 - K. Pattabhi Jois - Ashtanga Intensive - 1st Series - Maui
This is a very cool video. Pattabhi Jois leads 120 students through primary series, assisted by Sharath.
KPJ's voice fills the large room (without a microphone) as he continuosly calls out every move and counts every breath. At the same time he moves throughout the group, adjusting, correcting. His intensity and humor are well-captured. This could be a good one for practicing along with. Can also serve as a recent document of primary series Ashtanga yoga as taught by Pattabhi Jois. (Though it should be pointed out that his usual teaching style in Mysore, known as Mysore style, involves teaching each student individually, in small groups). (1 hour and 38 minutes)
You can order it or read more about it at mauiyoga.com (Sewell Archives)

Jivamukti on Maui - Liberation: A Yoga Intensive with David Life
This is a really cool video of David Life leading a class in his own style of yoga (Jivamukti Yoga). Very similar to Ashtanga (which I think David is a student and teacher of), but a bit different and with lots of interesting variations that I have never seen elsewhere. The class is preceded by some interesting lecture and some chanting.
(1 hour and 55 minutes).

---------------------

If you don't have a video of KPJ and are wanting to get one, this is a really good one. The David Life video is not an Ashtanga video but it is very cool. The lecture at the beginning is brief but very interesting, discussing mula bandha in the context of the chakras. Also he has some commentary on the chanting that is done in the class. I guess the yoga that he is teaching here would be Jivamukti yoga. I found it extremely interesting.

If you happen to be thinking of ordering these, I would like to point out also the Sarah Powers video from 1993, which is also from the Sewell Archive. This remains my favorite Ashtanga video.
All these can be ordered from:
http://ashtanga1.com

(No, I don't get a commission or anything, just passin' on the info)
