Guest guest
finding or creating one's own path toward self-realization can lead one to try many kinds of practice. patabhi jois tells us "ashtanga yoga" is named for the ashtanga, or eight limbs, of raja yoga, as described in the yoga sutras of patanjali. the last four of these deal with meditation and the superconscious state, the goal of the practice. it is valuable i think to debate the benefits of one set of asanas or another, if that's what you want to do. good to remember patanjali does not go into any detail about postures. to let one's yoga practice become a source of argument and insult seems counterproductive. it takes a rajassic aspirant or teacher to promote one way as the best way, expecially insofar as we each must find our own esoteric method. it is the sattvic life we seek through our practice. postures, whichever they are, and the rest of our yoga practice, should help us find that peaceful, balanced state.
