Guest guest
Here is a brand-new hardcover book I saw last time at Amazon.com, written by B.K.S. Iyengar himself (OK, it's not Astanga Yoga) and entitled "Yoga: The Path to Holistic Health", <a href=http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0789471655/qid=982754756/sr=1-3/ref=\ sc_b_3/103-1558604-7141413 target=new>http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0789471655/qid=982754756/sr=1-\ 3/ref=sc_b_ 3/103-1558604-7141413 . With its 408 pages and its large-sized dimensions, it could well be the new millenium bible on Iyengar Yoga. I ordered it yesterday from Amazon.de - although, in this country at least, the tome IS expensive, whew, it's nearly as costly as the Georg Feuerstein tome on the Yoga Tradition!

No details whatsoever on the book's content to be found: I haven't the faintest idea what the 408 pages are all about. The cover shows several pictures of a woman, shot from different angles, doing Warrior I in a simplified version - which might suggest that the tome is (hopefully) copiously illustrated.

Recently, I took up Iyengar Yoga again, which I now practise along with Astanga Yoga. Doing the postures the Iyengar way - i.e. SLOWLY - helps me to understand them better, as in fast-paced Astanga the poses are usually a rather rushed affair. Iyengar Yoga is also more flexible, which might partly explain its enduring popularity. For all its merits, Astanga Yoga really is a quite strict and rigid practice.
