Good news: according to his website,

target=new>http://www.ashtanga.co.uk/main.htm (check the "Workshop"

section), Astanga master

John Scott will hold a workshop in Germany on June 1 -

3 this year. For further details, e-mail Frank

Hinrichsen in Hamburg: FrankHinrichsen

in this country, we don't just drink our beer and

eat our sauerkraut all the time. Yes, as it happens,

some nuts here practise Astanga Yoga too.

You

should take notice.)

Herr Skull,

Thanks for the information

about John Scott in Hamburg. John is a great teacher -

I did a couple of workshops with him when I was

still in England, and my original teacher was a student

of his. I like Frank too - he did a good workshop in

Munich a couple of months ago. And people (mostly

non-Bavarians!) keep telling me I should visit Hamburg. AND

Lufthansa wrote last week to tell me I have enough air

miles for a free domestic flight. So see you in

Hamburg, probably. (I might even get to meet Lu from Kiel

there too)

I think you already know about David

Swenson's workshop in Munich, 23rd to 25th March. Lino

Miele is also doing a workshop in Munich, 25th to 27th

May. Who knows? Maybe one day Germany won't be such an

ashtaga backwater.

As for America ... been there

loads of times - SF, Boston, New York, the South West

(I love the desert, amazing landscapes, must get

some of the photos onto my website one day), Houston

(didn't know at the time that David Swenson lives just

round the corner from where I was working. Pity). Love

visiting the place, but the culture is far too wierd for

me ever to consider living there.

Hello Alan, I do enjoy reading your posts. They

are well thought out and have good advice. Would you

mind elaborating on what you meant by Americas culture

being too wierd for you to consider living here? Just

curious to know what is "too wierd" for your tastes.

Thanks Michael

I agree: the American culture is weird indeed. But I guess, Americans think our

European culture to be weird too ( all these strange traditions, the snobbery,

the old-fashioned ways...).

I'm sure you are right. But it was surprising to

me, when I came to work in Germany after having

visited the States a couple of times, to find that I felt

immediately very comfortable and at home here despite the

different language. I feel more foreign in America, despite

the (approximately) common language. Which I guess

just says that we Brits are European, although so many

of us really don't want to admit it.

(Mike,

that's the short version. Your question deserves a more

thorough and considered reply - coming soon.)
