Guest guest
A lot of postings there....... I'm sorry that I've not been hitting the site so much and this is out of time......
My Iyengar teacher friend is sitting beside me now and as he entered the room I asked your question.......his answer
"Whatever you want." added to which he says "Generally there is a theme or focus, so one day you'll do mostly forward bends, the next back bends or standing poses."
So with your yogic vocabulary you put together a practice for yourself looking at what the body requires, what you feel to do and so on.........
Of course the pose/counter-pose system applies which is what Krishnamachar has given to all his line Iyengar, Jois, Desikachar as well as the idea of building towards a more difficult position from simpler ones........
From another teacher........ "Your practice should be reflective of your physical state, mental state, emotional state, time of day, year, climate......"
So as you can see there is no hard and fast rule it's all a rather personal thing.........
Similarly you might repeat poses in a practice, hold for different lengths of time, try variations, use props or not use props..........
So you see your question is like asking about improvisation in music there is no hard and set rule but there are loose frameworks.........
So if you are happy following the astanga series then all well and good otherwise in the Iyengar way you are using the tools you are given and develop with your teachers in your own way.
