Guest guest
midnight omboy,

But why don't you give astanga yoga (in the tradition of K.P. Jois, of course!) a try yourself?? You may then find out that astanga (the "real thing", not the watered-down version you usually do in fitness centres) & bodybuilding simply DON'T match!

Astanga yoga is highly addictive stuff: I experienced it myself recently. Shame on me, in the last couple of weeks I've done lots of iyengar yoga & very little astanga (a bout of nostalgia for my "old iyengar days", I guess). But then: the vinyasas, the heat (the sweat!!), the unique intensity & vigour of astanga - I missed every bit of it all! So I've returned to concentrate upon astanga yoga only, this time working more on the details than I did before.

Besides, I respect your knowledge of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, which is truly awesome. But if you don't experience astanga yoga yourself through a regular practice, you will never understand what people are posting here! Guest guest
thanks for the suggestion. have sampled your tradition (and not at a gym) but did not adopt it as a regular practice. am completely supportive of those who do, as i am with those who find their way to other forms which work for them. am delighted that we have access to so many styles, and each can fine tune his/her own path. what wonderful karma we are blessed with. my early training calmed my rajasic tendencies. the ashtanga-style environment kind of rekindled my early tumult, but i gave it a good try. perhaps at some later date. i've noted that those who come to our sessions who normally practice ashtanga-style are lovely and calm, so have no doubt it is suited to them. meantime all the best in your beautiful practice.

jai
