Guest guest
Hi Allon,
thanks for your advice. I have been going to classes, but I think I've had it with them for a while. They were very different from the traditional yoga classes I'd been attending for a couple of years before I discovered Ashtanga. Lots of gym bunnies who were competing with each other, and every time the beginners like me chose not to do a vinyasa in between poses, the teacher would look disapprovingly in our direction and tell us to do one. Not good.
Anyway, I'm going to try to do the little and often route at home and hope I manage to grow some arm muscles soon. (although having said that I'm proud to say I managed Urdhva Dhanurasana for more than 2 seconds today!)
Thanks,
Emma
Guest guest
Emma: Good for you. Take Ashtanga at your own pace, your gains will be faster and longer lasting. I've seen to many people hurt themselves by pushing to hard and to fast. A symptom of our competitive society (at least in the US).
Remember, beyond the physical part of Ashtanga is the Ujayi breath and the bandhas. Concentrate on that. Everything else takes a back seat.
I wish you all the best in your Ashtanga practice. Yours in Yoga, Allen
