Guest guest
Greetings to all. I'm looking for a place to spend several weeks this summer learning and practicing Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in the traditional (Mysore) format. I'm interested in approximately 4-6 weeks or so beginning in July. Time and money likely preclude the idea of studying directly in India. Besides, as a neophyte in both world travel and Ashtanga, it might be more prudent to work up to such a trip.

I have no particular interest in celebrity culture or flagrant tourism, just a sincere practice community. Certified teachers would be good, but I'm more concerned with the quality of the teaching. I'm able to travel outside the USA within the limits of my finances.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to respond directly as this conversation may not be of interest to the entire list.

Namaste,
James

Guest guest
that's kind of difficult to answer without some guidance from you. where are you coming from? what part of the country are you hoping to go to?

just about all the certified teachers listed in the ashtanga.com site have web sites that you can peruse to find if their schedule fits your needs. they all teach mysore style. there are strong ashtanga communities in LA, San Diego area, NYC, San Francisco and many other areas. I know that many people come from others areas of the country to study with people like tim miller in encinitas and eddie stern in NYC, to name a couple of well thought of teachers in the states (of which there are many others, certified and non-certified). Guest guest
Hello James

You may take a look at www.yoga.pro.br, this is a brazilian site and, even if you don't understand portuguese, you can e-mail them asking about the deep Ashtanga Yoga workshop they are organizing in the south os brazil, in a very beautiful island. I can say they are serious people and the quality of pratice you can have there is really great. One of the organizers has just arrived from Mysore. And Brazil is very cheap for americans at the moment, for example, the whole july month of daily practice and conversations and etc. would cost around Us$ 800.00, including hotel, workshop and 2 veg. meals a day. Take a look at it!

Hope you can benefit from my suggestion.

Namaste!
goldenhair
