Guest guest
cont'd>>>>>

"There are various "levels" of consciousness opened up in Yoga and Meditation, called "higher" states because they differ from one's normal state of consciousness ... Different schools of Eastern mysticism define the different ways. .... Similar "states of consciousness" are experienced through certain drugs such as LSD, Hypnosis, Mediumistic Trances, Witchcraft Ceremonies, Voodoo etc., and all seem to be slight variations of the same occult phenomenon. ... it is valid for people to belong to different religions as they search for the truth, but when one has found it and becomes a Christian, it is no longer appropriate for them to flirt or date others outside their marriage. It would be adultery to do so. Many of my friends have accused me of fundamentalism in this regard. Perhaps they have forgotten that I have not always been a Christian. These practices were part of my life before then. I have experienced these things first hand so I "know" what it is that I have rejected to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I can assure you, they are not valid for Christians. Regardless of what people might think of my position on these matters, I am certain that I will be vindicated in the end and the Church will act to protect the faithful."
http://www.flameministries.org/word.htm

"... Yoga practice can lead to a quite different end from that much-advertised peace of mind and inner balance. The experiences it produces may be very dangerous because they are either the premise or the actual experience of demonic possession. If this interpretation seems absurd for some, in what other way could we explain the experience of Eastern initiation, especially when trying to be consistent with Christian theology?"
http://www.comparativereligion.com/Yoga.html

"Fundamentali\ st Christians in Georgia successfully blocked a county-sponsored yoga class because of fears that it could lead to devil worship. The class, sponsored by the Toccoa-Stephens County Recreation Department, was canceled on August 31, after county commissioners received a number of complaints from church groups. The man, Philip Lawrence, who "as a Christian" opposed the class said, "The people who are signed up for the class are just walking into it like cattle to a slaughter.Half of yoga," he said, "is a branch of Eastern mysticism, and it has strong occult influences." He said yoga is a form of New Age mysticism and can lead to devil worship. Lawrence gathered support from Baptist, Lutheran and Church of God congregations."
http://www.ifas.org/fw/9009/yoga.html
Guest guest
Omboy - Why is it okay for you to Christian-bash after you spent weeks lecturing everyone on this board not to gay bait and not to gay bash? I don't understand...
Guest guest
thanks OMBoy for these links. Yes YOGA has made the cover of TIME which is pretty damn incredible but I just knew there'd be some resistance from the conservative rightwing George Bush lovin' evangelical community. I love to believe that America is making a real step forward but let's face it a lot of yoga philosophy is radical to the typical western thinker especially anyone with an evangelical tendency. Even the TIME story is all about the medical benefits of yoga and so many expert doctors interviewed are very cautious of admitting that yoga has any really benefits to the physical body let alone the spiritual body. A small step forward but still a long way to go.
Guest guest
no bashing, just reporting -- with direct quotes in extensive context, with links to the sources.

but you knew that. your message repeats the usual christian coalition reversal claim, that they are victimized by those they work hard to persecute.

again, please, if you intend to address me directly, let it be in the context of the ashtanga. Guest guest
always a pleasure -- if you want to see more, like i said, just type something like "yoga christian" at any search engine.

liked the news article about religious fundamentalists stopping a yoga program at a public school. perhaps we will one day see in the u.s. a "defense of avidya act" or "defense of allopathic medicine act" to restrict yoga practice, just as we saw the preposturous christian coalition generated "defense of marriage act" which symbolically restricted the marriage rights of all those scary gay people who keep threatening to do whatever makes them happy.
