Guest guest Posted April 15, 2001 Report Share Posted April 15, 2001 charlatans abound. was once in an "ashtanga yoga" class where the instructor held us in "down dog" for 20 minutes and then directed everyone up against a mirrored wall for headstands. right. heard she "went to india" recently, and spent her whole time there sightseeing. can you say "cosmic debris," boys and girls? see the certification discussion here before the recent ugly spat of ignorant gay bashing. can't argue with the concept of some form of proof that the teacher has a clue.

some, like the religious right, want to discredit the practice of yoga, so will deliberaterly spread lies and confusion. others are merely opportunists, wishing to cash in on the trend or simply gain two minutes of attention. with the plethora of books, publications, and websites, authoritative information is easy to find. no need to rely on anonymous "experts" crawling out of the woodwork, who, face it, are just scanning a page ahead of you from any book on the prescribed reading list, assiduously typing out quotes to impress you. add a "dear blessed self" and a few other catchphrases and the sham is complete. careful what you read on the internet. no picture? no personal information? no credibility.

beware particularly of those whose forbidding attitudes and shame-based clucking mirror traditional puritanical judeo-christian sects. the christian coalition is as virulent in its opposition toward yoga and hinduism as it is in its obsessive hatred of homosexuals. yoga is about complete liberation. no evangelical prohibitions are attached to yoga. zero. presumably a sincere christian ernestly exploring yoga will be interested in finding an esoteric path reconciling sadhana with faith in the bible. but make no mistake -- the power of yoga is an antidote to the limitations of restrictive organized religion, not a bauble to be co-opted (though it's fun watching the missionaries try).

the internet is saturated with all manner of busy little evangelical christians masquerading, often in teams, in any role necessary to realize their life's goal: conversion of every non-christian in the world ("pagans") to their zealous, mystical belief in the biblical jesus, or as we hear it in the u.s., ja-a-a-a-ayzzzzussssssssss. they envision a day when criminal and civil law is the same as the old testament "thou shalt nots," replete with execution of gay people and obliteration of any belief system, like hinduism, that venerates deities other than the god of the hebrew nation.

to see some of the nonsense the yoga-hating, gay-baiting religious right is spreading about yoga see these charming links:

this one from a christian "ex-yogi," with all the familiar trappings of the equally preposturous "ex-gay" sham:

cont'd>>>>> Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 15, 2001 Report Share Posted April 15, 2001 You really should chill omboy. Now you play the total idiot. Your latest post is really stupid considering it's Easter Sunday. You are keeping the gay thing in the forefront I see. Somethings just never change do they?

So you don't like the "religious right" Who really cares except for you. Maybe you should go up to Saint Patrick's Cathedral and chuck some condoms at it. This is what the gays at Act Up did a few years ago. Real, real smart eh? LOLOLOL

I usually just lurk (hey FBL! ... you are funny!) but am speaking out at your repulsive post. Can you stifle your uncontrollable urge for attention for a while? Chill out dude!!

JY7 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 16, 2001 Report Share Posted April 16, 2001 Omboy likes to play the poor victim of the ashtanga-board gay bashers. After all, he has nothing else to post on. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 16, 2001 Report Share Posted April 16, 2001 The Christian Coalition is a political organization with a lot of power. They practically control the Republican party, which in turn controls all three branches of the U.S. government. If their position on yoga is that it leads to devil worship and demonic posession (?!?), then that fact will be relevant news to some practitioners of yoga (whatever their beliefs may be).

This is not meant to defend the perceived bashing of Christians or any other group, but I'm not sure that was MO's intention. There's a difference between bashing all members of a religion and raising an alarm regarding a specific organization's activities. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 17, 2001 Report Share Posted April 17, 2001 herr skull

thanx for giving me a good laugh - i think your light just went on. (truth shining through)

This ties in with your other truth - about the desperate part (if you qoute me i may deny it).
Before we realize that we're miserable and desparate in essence (yeah, yeah because of the Separation and all that)(and "take thee to a nunnery", i mean...'ashtanga yoga' - it IS a tad more practical) we blame everyone else for our state which sums up -bingo- our own omcowboy. Guest guest Posted April 18, 2001 Report Share Posted April 18, 2001 thank you for the reasonable assessment. funny how when one tells the simple truth on the internet about the christian coalition, myriad personal attacks and outright lies get attached to every message -- like barnacles.

i began posting here and within three weeks was gay baited and verbally bashed because people went to my website and deduced that i am gay. the phraseology and techniques used are the same as those contrived by fundamentalist christian demagogues. their intent was to disrupt the board and take the focus away from yoga, something they hate as much as the dreaded homosexual -- which my reporting was intended to bring to light. type something like the words "christian" and "yoga" at any search engine and see the thousands of enlightening listings that come up about demonic possession, occult, devil worship, etc.

the language, the hostility, the dishonesty used by such people at this board in an effort to rout the "queer" and misinform about yoga have nothing to do with anybody interested enough in yoga to practice and to discuss it in a public forum. Guest guest Posted April 19, 2001 Report Share Posted April 19, 2001 so you've been lurking you say? but only since march 22, 2001 ... according to your informationless profile. another anonymous screen name created during the archaic and unimaginative gay bashing to join in the fun.

you should really try a yoga practice sometime. don't be frightened, you will not be possessed by the devil.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Been here since 1/20/2001. Different name.
You really should get out more. Your hysteria about the Christian Coalition is out of comic book. It may play well in lower Manhattan and a few other places. So you start to get misconceptions about how much you really know about their power. I too wouldn't want to live in a nation run by Christian fundamentalists
At any rate it's nice to see them have some influence on what's going on here in the US. Far better than the influence of militant, wacko gays. Your ideas about gay marriage are laughable and just another game of pretend. I wish you luck in life. I just think you are much more out there than you have any idea. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted April 19, 2001 Report Share Posted April 19, 2001 << Your ideas about gay marriage are laughable... >>
Why should gay marriage be laughable? Actually, it's widely legal in Europe already, esp. in Scandinavia and in the Netherlands. But France also and, albeit more reluctantly, Germany, have been the most recent European countries to introduce some kind of institutionalised gay marriage. Even in ultra-Catholic Spain, according to opinion polls, most people are now in favour of it. The US should take notice. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
