I personally have found it helpful in the

balancing poses to actively push my standing foot down, and

use the bandhas, dristhi, and my hand on my hip as

anchors. It seems to go better for me if I get a good and

relaxed tadasana in place before I enter the pose. I see

from your posts that you are learning on your own with

books. I respect your choice, however if there is a

teacher near you, I highly suggest giving classes a try.

Something about practicing with other people has really

helped my focus and having a teacher's adjustments has

given me a feel for poses that I couldn't get on my
