Guest guest
I recently found a very good book on back pain. It is called 7 Steps to a Pain Free Life, by Robin McKenzie. The author is a very well-respected physical therapist. His techniques are used by many doctors and therapists. This is a fairly new book - may only be available in hardback so far. You could just look at it a bookstore. Basically it presents 7 exercises for back pain and 7 exercises for neck pain. They are all very simple exercises, basically extension and flexion of the spine in lying, sitting and standing positions. I think this book is based on a couple of previous books called Treat Your Own Back and Treat Your Own Neck. You can see how a lot of these exercises are related to yoga asanas.

Also, I just got a Thera Cane, which is a device for self-massage that enables you to apply strong pressure to places you can't normally get at, like between your shoulder blades. Can be used all over. This is a great tool! http://www.theracane.com

Continuing to add lots of info on self-healing to my website:
http://www.ionet.net/~tslade/health.htm
Guest guest
i am constantly amazed by all the anecdotes of injury from asana practice. what is needed are not more appliances and allopathic or even homeopathic remedies, but a careful look at the yoga sutras, at the actual ashtanga of yoga.

to hurt oneself is not yoga. to force or strain is not yoga. a practice that causes pain is not yoga. been practicing since childhood and never had a back ache or neck ache in my life, and always recovered from injuries from other activities quite quickly.
