There is a rumor that practicing Yoga for many

months can add an inch to your height due to increasing

the thickness of the discs in your spine. Has anyone

reported a noticable height gain in this manner?

Oddly enough, I've noticed a heightend sense of

self (oh my...that pun was soooooooo

bad).<br><br>B'dom ching...but seriously...I have noticed I measure

taller than I used to, 1 year ago, how much of that is

due to proper posture, and standing taller, however

is anyone's guess....<br><br>Namaste!<br>Lilly

i went to measure just to help you out- and can

report that i am a half inch taller. ( That took years

of yoga though ....and particular effort to stretch

out the natural compression tendencies in my lower

back.)

Stop. "Several inches" is too much - according to my dictionary, 1 inch = 2.54

cm already. My older sister reported an increase in height of 3 cm, from 170 cm

to 173 cm. She was 30 years old then.

Shining_skull:<br><br>Do you know what kind of

program she follows? Does she stretches everyday?

<br><br>I assume that Yoga or some kind of stretching

program could help me get taller, I'm 20 years old so I

assume I haven't developed completely yet.

<br><br>Thanks!! ;)

Yes!<br>A couple of years ago my school nurse

told me that I would gain no more height. That time I

was about 162 cm tall. Now after a year of yoga

practice I have become over 2 cm taller than I was

then.<br><br>I quess that's because now I keep myself in more

upright posture (or what ever is the correct term) than I

used to then.

I can't tell you exactly how the stretching

routine of my sister looked like - she doesn't do

stretching anymore. Instead, she enthuses over sub-aqua

sports now.<br><br>It was not yoga. However, she once

showed me a book she found very helpful: it was Maxine

Tobias' & Mary Stewart's "Stretch and Relax" (currently

out of print). This book is strongly rooted in

Iyengar Yoga, a style of yoga in which it is not unusual

to spend up to 3 minutes or more in postures like

e.g. the forward bends - and unlike Astanga, where you

usually keep a pose for no more than 5 ujjayi breaths. So

the stretching effect of iyengar yoga might be

greater than that of astanga, although, on the other

hand, astanga is much more vigorous than

iyengar.<br><br>Also, I suspect that yoga works differently on a

woman's body than on that of a man: i.e., the stretching

effect of yoga on the human spine may possibly be

greater with women than with men.
