The energy created by practicing with one of more astanga yogis greatly helps consistency and effort.

If a good astanga shala isn't available or convenient to you, then start a yoga club, even if that means finding one other person who also wants to practice along with you at home.

If a teacher is available, but far away, perhaps make a commmitment to visit that teacher once a week. Guest guest
2) "Overeating destroys Yoga" -- Hatha Yoga Pradipika

I find this terse little phrase to be one of the most useful truisms for yoga practice!

Not only does overeating cloud the mind, it also makes progress through the vinyasa series rather difficult. Overeating limits flexibility. Spareness of diet makes the practice far more enjoyable and easier, and weight loss helps keep your joints healthy.

Vegetarian fare helps flexibility; the eating of raw veg foods even more so. Guest guest
I wonder if there is any correlation between my change in eating habits (for the better) recently and going to a daily early morning practice. I am practicing more and first thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything. I spontaneously stopped drinking coffee though I have been trying for years to get the willingness. I didn't even get the headache. I understand the concept of practicing without attatchment to the fruits, but it is nice when and if they appear. I even got into a couple of asanas that I haven't yet been able to achieve without help. I have a little more tapas these days too. Namaste-- K. Guest guest
Funny I just finished a two day juice fast with the encouragement of one of my teachers. She said when she did juice fast she found it greatly inhanced her yoga. I did my practice last night and other then feeling "lighter" I did not notice any change. I noticed more change the previous weeks when I had cut down my carbohydrates and focused more and veges and proteins, I felt less stiff then. Guest guest
You will notice the effects of fasting over time... the more often you fast on a regular (but not fanatical) basis, you'll see it's benefits in your practice.

Nada
