Guest guest
I was in Kovalam with Lino the winter before last. I would recommend it - excellent tuition from Lino and Gwendoline, plus Lino's wife Tina who is also a certified ashtanga teacher if you happen to be there during Italian school holidays. And a very interesting and friendly international crowd of students - lots of Finns of course (for some strange reason Lino is practically a national hero in Finland), quite a few Americans, and other assorted Europeans & Australians. Quite a lot of people were there for a change of scene and pace either before or after Mysore (I might be one of them this winter).

There's also an Indian therapeutic massage guy who works there called Vijay, who cured my 15 year old knee injury that surgery and years of physiotherapy and yoga hadn't fixed. He and Gwendoline are the two people I've met who I regard as genuine, certifiable bodywork geniuses.

Kovalam is quite nice but very busy, westernised and touristy. Very much "India for beginners", which was fine by me as it was my first visit. But if it hadn't been for the yoga I would have been bored stiff there after a few days, and even with the yoga three weeks was enough. Folks who had been to Mysore said prices in Kovalam were about double Indian norms elsewhere - i.e. still pretty cheap by western standards unless you're on an absolute shoestring budget.

(Must get some Kovalam pics up on my website some time soon)
