Guest guest
Hi you,
why to take the belly in when breathing and expand the chest? Behind the ribs there is (anatomically) not much space, even if you breath with full capacity, the ribcage wides only a limited space. Therefore it sounds logical, if one says, to breath with the "belly out" and, in addition, into the lungs: in this case there comes the maximum of air into the body. But that's not the right way of Ashtanga-breathing. Where is to find the real vantage, the secret of Ujjayi-Breathing? - And what does the diaphragm do, it drinks a cup of tea, Bavarian bear, or what is its work in this breathing? I'm curious about your answers, bye Lu
Guest guest
Lu,

Ujjayi breathing helps you to develop heat in your body (which you need "to bend the iron").

It also helps you to focus your mind on breath. This means to silence the wandering mind which is a major goal in Yoga. It also gives you a rhythm to practise in. And it tells you how good your practise is - if you can´t breath in Ujjayi-style any more while practising it means you are overstraining.

That´s what I know about it. Probably there are more deep, hidden truths I haven´t come across yet.

Regards
Thomas
