Question: How long should I wait after giving

birth to return to yoga class? I am feeling pretty good

now three weeks later. Any general instructions?

After my first I waited three months on the advice of

my doctor, but think that was too cautious. Thanks!

As a childbirth instructor the general advise I

give my students is this:

Exercise that causes

fatigue, increases bleeding, or slows production of milk

should be stopped. Any excercises that utilize the

abdominal muscles should not be done until you can no

longer insert two fingers between the muscles below your

navel.

Other than that I simply tell my students to go slowly

and give themselves plenty of time. :-)

your doctor. So does my wife, who gave birth 11 months

ago, and so does Joycelyn, Eddie Stern's wife, who

gave birth 13 months ago. Wait 3 months before getting

back into vinyasa yoga. Your womb needs to shrink back

to its proper size before you attempt the twists and

inversions of Yoga. You might get some bleeding if you try

too much too soon.

Yours, DAN

Thank you ddm and WEofUI for the benefit of your

respective experiences. Guess I'll start back with a gentle

routine since I feel I really need to do something. Any

suggestions? (By the way, how's your little one doing, Dan?)
