Guest guest
Namaste,

I just joined the club and was going through the archive of messages. I noticed some nasty fights going on. Just wondering --- is that usual?

It seems like a good source of info, but it was a little depressing reading about the Ottawa yoga teacher issue.

Nice to meet you all! Guest guest
As someone who has been following the club almost since its inception and who has read (or should I say survived) every single post, I regret to confirm that vituperation is pretty nearly the norm.

With all the characters around here, one might as well be living inside a Dostoyevsky novel -- the Brothers Karamazov, for instance. On a day-to-day basis they will drive you batty, but then there are certain moments of glory.

Maybe Alan_Little and godfreydev are the Father Zossimas of this board. I put myself somewhere between the quiet, gentle Alyosha and the cerbral, brooding Ivan. Who is El Senor: the sullen Smerdyakov, or the noisy and depraved paterfamilas of the Karamazovs?

Peace and Good,
Homer
Guest guest
I have to say, I admire anyone who got through those Russian novels! I never did.

I have read Ulysses several times, back when I was in college. I expect the payoff for reading the Russians in at least equal to that of investing time into the works of Joyce. Well, maybe someday...

Anyhoo, don't we *all* feel we're the voice of Reason?
Guest guest
hi lozpalmer

nice to meet you. i am still a beginner in ashtanga---about 7 months---still learing, still unable to do many of the asanas in the primary series, but loving it. i think there are many people in the group who can give you better insight than me.

i know what ashtanga has done for me is equally physical, mental and spiritual. when i first started practising, i noticed some very strange things going on with my body and with my emotions. rather than feeling refreshed and energized after a class, i would feel completely tired and sometimes a strange depression-like void.

this is your body and mind pushing out poisons and it will become more and more a path to peacefulness. also, it is making me stronger physically --- both through muscles and posture.

that's what i know! i'm also hindu, so it goes along with my religion.

i haven't tried bikram's, but a friend of mine has. she really likes it. it sounds interesting, but i'm sticking to pure ashtanga practice for now.

hope this helps and hope to hear from you soon. by the way, i'm in vancouver. Guest guest
well that's enticement enough to keep visiting. who can resist a cast of characters and unpredictable plot like that?

i think most net communities do tend to be a bit harsh at times. we can still learn.

here's to teaching each other! Guest guest
If you're new here, and taking enough interest to read a lot of the messages, I maintain an index to some of the more interesting & informative (to me) older messages that you might find useful. It's on my website at:

http://www.alanlittle.org/yoga/index.html

Not all of the links work, some of the older messages seem to have been "pruned"
