Guest guest
Hallo Dirk,

I have been suffering from high blood pressure for a long time too, due mainly to the very one-sided sort of gymnastics I pursued before I discovered yoga for myself. I was *very* stiff in the area of my shoulders, which in turn affected my respiratory system and caused constant back ache. Since I've started with doing yoga, all this problems have virtually disappeared, and my blood pressure has returned back to normal now.

The best thing to do in your case would be to speak about your problem with an experienced teacher. If you don't have access to any one where you live, you could try to e-mail a qualified teacher of your choice and ask him to give you some advice on how to do your practice. Some time ago, I read a highly interesting article - check http://iyengar-yoga.freepage.de/abhyasa11/11internet.htm - about a guy practising Iyengar Yoga, who became ill with a rare syndrome consisting in a sense of numbness in his left hand. After consulting several specialists, who weren't able to give him much comfort, he finally e-mailed one of the big stars of Iyengar Yoga, Mira Mehta in London, to seek medical advice from her. She did reply, she gave him some advice, and it helped.
