That's true when you're just starting to learn

arm balances, and I've worn below the knee leggings

for a long time for just that reason. But then lo &

behold, went to class last week in shorts because all the

leggings were in the washbasket ... and to my surprise,

sailed through the bhujadidasana - titthibasana sequence

better than I ever have. And the people I've seen doing

all the amazing arm balances from advanced series

have generally been doing them in shorts. Presumably

as your flexibility and bandha control improve, the

need for every last scrap of friction diminishes.
