Guest guest
Manju Jois comes to Yoga Sport now and then to teach in "special training weeks" there. Is this enough to make him a "yoga criminal"? I would say it is not. Also, Manju still does go to Mysore.

Greetings,
The ashtanga lynch mob.

Guest guest
Alan - I acquit you. (BTW, you're not a teacher.)

Seriously, an instructor who claims to teach Astanga Yoga and who has never been in Mysore to study with Sri Jois is - in my humble opinion - not a teacher but a fraud.

Take your German teacher for example. As far as I know, she does go regularly to Mysore. As a matter of fact, I once spoke with her on telephone last summer - that was right at the start of my Astanga practice, and before I even knew that she's your teacher. I was seeking information about the sale of Mysore rugs in Germany, and she was the only person who was not yet away on holiday. She told me that she bought her rug on one of her trips to Mysore. Now there! She's serious. (I myself ended up buying my rug online at Barefootyoga.)
Guest guest
She is indeed serious - a totally dedicated yogi, astanga purist and good teacher who has just booked her flight for her third trip to Mysore. I have no reservations at all about studying with her, whether or not she appears on anybody's list.

But then, I have enough experience to make my own judgement in these matters. The main potential value of lists as far as I can see is to protect newcomers who don't have the experience or knowledge to make their own judgements. Except that if they're newcomers, how do they even know there's a list they should be looking at? QED - lists not much use (???) (No disrespect to Betty or her website)

My Mysore rug came from Mysore too, but not imported by me - it was a birthday present.
