Guest guest
<<As for the tears - what really makes me want to cry: that I'm not yet able to drop backward into urdhva dhanurasana from a standing position (rather than pressing myself up from the floor), because that's really something I would like I can do one day. >>

Don't lose faith about dropping back from standing. (remember you must also stand back up again!)

It took me, el senor pinche wey some 6 years of practice before I could do it so it can and will happen. Remember, in Mysore dropping back and standing is a pre-requisite to starting Intermediate.

If I may make a suggestion, use a wall and stand an arms length away from it. Drop back to the wall and walk all the way down to backbend. Then press your chest against the wall with straight legs and feet parrallel. This will open up the shoulders and upper back. Then walk your way back up and press away from the wall to standing.

Once you get the hang of it, keep both hands lined up horizontally and sort of hop the hands up and down as opposed to walking one had at a time. Each time drop back to a point lower and lower on the wall. if you do this for 2 to six months you should be set. Good luck.

el senor pinche wey
Guest guest
I'm astonished (astongished?) and aghast: criminal on-line astanga yoga instruction from the chronicaleer hizelf. It's a whacky world when something like that happens. After all these months of people politely asking you for suggestions, help, advice, etc., you deign to instruct our resident know-it-all-(not). Such a warm feeling that must give you to help out. Good on ya! Ole-ole-ole-ole
