Your post

<<...I am still in the

dark about the "energy" part of yoga. I know it is the

foundation of it but I guess I am so westernized I just

don't buy it..someone explain in a more

scientific/medical way and I will probably understand the energy

part better, thanks.>>

When you realize

that all you are doing is moving energy around you

will taste the sweet fruit of the asthanga nectar.

Some Chinese practices such as Tai Chi and Chi Gung

focus exclusively on this. I am sure there is some

pseudo scientific explanation. However the best way to

appreciate the energetic quality of yoga is to go to Mysore.

You will experience first hand the energy of the

guru, the energy in the practice room and if you are

open to it, you will observe the immediate impact on

your practice.

El Senor, Ole!

No disrespect intended..just my pure

ignorance/wonder here..how would moving energy around help me

taste the sweet nectar or asthanga? I mean..all is

energy and most of us are in constant motion so..why

would yoga be any different than any other form of

exercise or hobby that is nurturing to the "spirit" if you

will (am playing devil's advocate here..giggle). If

you are to imply that there is a spiritual element to

this then I need that explained as I've said before I

am way westernized and having come from a

fundamentalist christian background I am way leery of anything

that is real feelings based so that is why I asked

about scientific data, info.

Thanks, El Senor..I

do appreciate your feedback and look forward to

hearing more from ya.

Robin

You can find scientific/medical/what-so-ever

explanations on how Yoga works in several books. I myself have

read some of them - that Yoga postures affect the

central nervous system etc - but so far I havn't found

one that was in the least satisfactory. Yoga cannot

be pinned down medically/scientifically/you-name-it.

It's a subtle process. However, it doesn't matter much

how Yoga works, but that it works. Just do it

yourself.

I have been doing much of the primary series..I

haven't gotten past the ..ooh..I haven't memorized the

names of the postures but it's on Richard Freeman's

videotape and I think it might be ...half lotus..where you

pick up your right foot, pull in your heel towards

your lower ab and then come around with the left hand,

grab the big toe and eventuallyyyy..lol..fold from the

hip and touch the floor..eek..haven't mastered that

one yet..but I will! I lose my balance and almost

fall...btw..I have a blood-clotting disorder and I have quite a

few bruises now from doing yoga..I must not be doing

something right!! Like the aforemetioned pose..I bruise my

stomach doing it..LOL..weird, eh?

oh..and thanks

for your input!
Robin M.
