Guest guest
Well, I'll bet that nobody here is going to help you out with this one, but I'm supposing that it is a serious inquiry and not just some more internet fun and games.

Two places are listed (Guy Donahaye and Jivamukti) if you will go to the home page here, go to "founders personal home page", and then select "classes" there and look under New York. There is also Patanjali Yoga Shala (431-3738). None of these places is for the faint of heart! Or, ask your teacher. Or, you can read all 9000 messages here and then you will really know the answer. Guest guest
Jivamukti and Guy are o.k. but neither teacher at those locations are certified by our beloved guru.

Only Patanjali Yoga Shala run by Eddie Stern teaches the real thing that satisfies.

El senor, ole!

ps and don't miss the guru when he comes to New York in September
Guest guest
El Senor -

I feel compelled to correct the erroneous information you give in your response regarding teachers in NYC. Perhaps Eddie Stern is the only one who meets with your approval, but the teachers you say are not authorized by Pattabhi Jois are in fact. According to ashtanga.com, which is the record for such things, Guy Donahaye is one of the few Ashtanga teachers authorized by KPJ, as is Russell Yamaguchi at Jivamukti. And David LIfe, founder of Jivamukti, is one of the very few Ashtanga teachers in the world not only authorized by KPJ but Certified as well. And for those not who have not followed the board here for awhile, Eddie Stern is a well-repected teacher, authorized by Pattabhi Jois, and would also be on the list at ashtanga.com but apparrently asked to be removed, not wanting to be listed on any website that may have any commercial interests (selling books, etc). So there are at least 4 Ashtanga teachers in NYC authorized by Pattabhi Jois. (And probably quite a few other very accomplished Ashtanga teachers as well). Guest guest
Listen Terry, apparently y'all don't read so good out there in Norman. Well with your reading up on the latest tractor parts, hunting periodicals and stock car racing, who has time to read posts by the beloved El Senor?

I said that those other teachers were not CERTIFIED although they may have been granted permission. Only Eddie has been certified. David Life was indeed certified but for some reason feels that his own brand of Jiveassmonkey yoga is an improvement upon our beloved guru's sacred methodology. Beware duncan wong who teaches a hybrid of yoga and martial arts (yogic arts) for he is neither certified nor authorized.

Take it from me, El Senor Pinche Wey, the others are basically impostors.

Okeydokey?

El Senor Pinche Wey (y tu madre)
Guest guest
<<David Life was indeed certified but>>

and certified he remains until guruji says otherwise, no 'buts' about it. it is not for you to second guess guruji's judgement. your disrespect and hypocrisy are pathetic.

namaste,
mulala
formerly known as yomamasana
(i just couldn't stay away while el spew continues to insult guruji's judgement)

p.s. mr. slade has consistently demonstrated himself as being extremely well read, far more so than you. Guest guest
Alrighty then. I suppose I should have paid closer attention. "Certified" vs. "authorized" (or "Blessed"). Another post I probably should not have made. I did feel like sticking up for David Life, although you did say he was "OK". I know where you are coming from on this and I can respect that. You would not enjoy the video I have of David Life teaching Jivmukti yoga. But he does call it that and not Ashtanga. And I would assume that he teaches Ashtanga classes that are not like his Jivamukti yoga classes. It is good that you direct people to the "purest" teachers you know of but I would not call others, especially those authorized to teach, "imposters".

And just so you know, I do not hunt, race cars, or drive a tractor. Many have left these parts for "cultural reasons", but there can be advantages to living in the heartland. Visitors often comment on how nice the people are. And hey, this crazy planet's gettin' smaller every day.

Keep posting, as well as giving your much heeded opinion and advice on this board. There is much we can learn from you folks out there in Norman, OK. And thank you! Guest guest
My point was that David Life no longer teaches the morning Mysore Ashtanga class at Jiveassmonkey (Jivamukti) Yoga center. He prefers to grandstand before the yoga newbies with his own brand of hybrid yoga, new age spiritualism and other falderall to the tune of Emerson Lake and Palmer.

Ole!

senor pinche wey (y tu madre)

Guest guest
3 places to study:

with guy donahue
with russell kai at Jivamukti
with eddie stern at patanjali's yoga shala

i've studied with all 3 and they are all amazing teacher. Look no further than these 3 places, there really is nowhere else with as experienced teacher.

although OM on 14th street has part time mysore practice in the afternoons. I hear Mathew at OM is really good but i can't agree with the part time mysore approach.
