Guest guest
Yes, actually I noticed yesterday that someone posted pictures of B.K.S.Iyengar in the Photos section of this club. Nothing against the photos themselves - they're nice, thanks. I must say however that I was quite annoyed at first when seeing them: isn't this club committed to the teachings of Sri K Pattabhi Jois after all? I was also considering suggesting those pictures to be removed. But on second thought, they can stay where they are - if you like.

I would agree that there is "some" connection between the Iyengar system and Astanga Yoga. The connection stems mainly from the fact that B.K.S.Iyengar and Sri Jois both had the same teacher, the legendary guru Sri T.Krishnamacharya in Mysore. But whereas Sri Jois seems to have sticked with T.Krishnamacharya's teachings, limiting himself to refine on them until this day, B.K.S.Iyengar apparently broke with them, and went on instead developing his own style with time.

<< How would it be to exercise the ashtanga method but following the asanas program from B.K.S.Iyengar. >>

I think that's basically what respected teachers like Godfrey Devereux do, who mix Astanga Yoga with elements taken from the Iyengar system. It's possible to do so. Keep in mind though that once you start mixing, it's not Astanga Yoga in the tradition of Sri Jois anymore.
Guest guest
One need only watch the 1938 video of Mr. Iyengar with Krishnamacharya available from the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco to see that Mr. Iyengar was EXTREMELY PROFICIENT IN ASHTANGA YOGA as a young man. Indeed, it appears that his practice was rooted in this blessed practice. But don't take the word of El Senor, watch the video yourself...it is amazing.

El Senor
Guest guest
The Iyengar Institute has just now received their shipment of the 1938 practice video. I had ordered it over a year ago and finally got it last week.

Yes, amazing.
