Hey all, I was wondering a bit about Yoga and

body toning. I've recently started doing a lot more

Power Yoga and flexability poses and was wondering what

postures tone what part of the body? I love Yoga not only

for its relaxing benefits, but also because it tones

your body. Like everyone, I have some parts that are

kinda flabby and want to target my workout on

them.

Shannon
AIM BUS13Princess

I've been practicing for approx 9 months

faithfully every day, and I find that my entire body is

being toned. Its not one specific asana, but the whole

series that improves your tone. Poses like triconasana

(I've prob spelled it wrong) will help lengthen and

tone your calves, hamstrings and thights while doing

downward dog will lengthen and strengthen your upper body.

Lowering down towards the floor from the plank pose help

to strenghten and tone the tricep muscles. I suggest

you get a book on asanas (poses) or get a video or

attend a class. It doesn't take very long to see

results. Just be consistant and breath correctly with

ujjai(which is the key, in my opinion, to sucessful yoga).

Sweet Princess,
Perhaps, you could learn from

Yoga about observing your desire to concentrate on

just toning your body. There's a lot more to this

equation you should consentrate on if your serious about

it. Then toning will come naturally.
Happy

practice my friend!

Shannon: Targeting a specific area to work out

(spot reducing) is not an effective way to lose fat

from a particular body part. For instance, you can

strengthen and tone the muscles in your thighs, but if there

is fat the only way to lose it is an overall cardio

program that will burn the fat.

It is better to

concentrate on developing your yoga practice than spot

reducing. If you practice regularly you will see results.

And keep in mind that the point of yoga is not to get

a workout. Ashtanga is more "athletic" than some

forms of yoga but your focus may be better served on

other aspects of the practice rather than the idea of

losing weight, toning, etc.

Just my opinion. Best

of luck to you.
