Guest guest
Hey.. thank you all for the welcome, it's good to be in the "funny farm" with... 'ashtanga animals' I guess, if we're gonna get alliterative

I've never been to a yoga class, although I do go to my local gym.. so am thinking of checking out the classes there. However, I got this great video, available in the UK only, I assume, that takes you through the basic asanas at a beginner and advanced level.. so I am learning that way. It's by a yogi who was formerly a nutritionalist, and so she is useful in pointing out the name of the asana, what and where it will benefit and soforth.

I'm wanting to learn more about yoga in general, and also get some kind of idea on what I can progress to. Some asanas, like most people I guess, I can hardly move into, whereas others I can do with ease, where my different bodily zones have different levels of flexibility. I guess the best thing to do is go to a class, or get books, or just carrying on trawling through the websites.

If I have any specific questions it seems there are some knowledgable people in here I can ask, and am more likely to approach the less supercilious I guess... I don't know what to ask right now because I haven't been doing it enough to say "why this" or "how can I...".

Anyway.. thanks again for the welcome.. and do people in here have messenger? It's far easier to talk through there, than in email or club-posts.

Well.. I'm about to do my morning workout.. Have to do it before I eat breakfast for the ab excercises in particular, and I'm damned starving, so.. looking forward to it.

Take care everyone, cuídate mucho

Jon
Guest guest
HI,

I would be curious to know what "this great video, available in the UK only" is you're posting about? Anyway, if you are interested in videos on Astanga Yoga, check out http://www.ashtanga.com/videos.html . (I myself am planning to get the Lino Miele video on primary series at last.)

For someone living in the UK it shouldn't be too difficult to find a good Astanga instructor: check http://www.ashtanga.com/europe.html#uk fyi. John Scott and Hamish Hendry are both certified by Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, and are among the best Astanga-Yoga teachers worldwide.

For books, try http://www.ashtanga.com/resources.html . "Yoga Mala" by Sri Jois, "Astanga Yoga" by Lino Miele, and "Ashtanga Yoga" by John Scott are the ones that show the traditional method as taught by Sri Jois in Mysore. John Scott's book is particularly interesting, as it is very detailed. I have it myself. You can get it online at Amazon UK.
Guest guest
The video I was talking about is "Barbara Currie's Power Of Yoga".. and the only reason I said it was available in the UK only is because I've become so used to everyone being from America. Apparantly, videos from the States do not work on VCRs that we have and vice versa.. therefore, "only available".

Thanks for the link.. but those instructors are mainly up north, so it really isn't as easy to find a good instructor. There are classes nearby to me, although I haven't checked the details out yet, so don't know which forms and which levels are taught. I wouldn't bother going to London either for the class they recommend, as it isn't cost or time efficient.

I'll be checking out those books! Thanks for the suggestion.

Take care, cuídate

Jonathan
