Guest guest
Alan - Actually, I came back from a one-week stay in Italy only on Sunday, and I am still more dead than alive trying to cope with the extraordinary heat these days here in Germany. (Yesterday I felt like I was suffocating at last.) So I watch very little TV, and I go to bed early instead, as I am always tired. I just see the news on ARD / ZDF / n-tv and that's that. Too bad I almost always miss the yoga-related transmissions on BR, the official channel of Astanga nation Bavaria.

Seriously, I have a hard time already sticking to a regular Astanga practice on these dog days. Since returning to Germany on Sunday, I have managed to do no more than my standard short form, i.e. surya namaskara A & B, baddha padmasana, yoga mudra, panmasana, padmasana and uth pluthi, plus 5 minutes in savasana. Sounds ridiculous, I know. But for me it's enough already to make me sweat like a pig. Padmasana just keeps dissolving; because of the sweat my feet tend to slip away from my thighs, so I always have to start again.
Guest guest
Actually, I find the heat is great for yoga practice - positivley India-like - although not so good for sitting in an office with ineffective air conditioning, trying to think about designing software (or about how to remove the arms of my chair so I can sit all day in half padmasana)

In fact, the heat and humidity are so good that I got my right toe for the first time ever in ardha badha padma paschimotanasana yesterday - might have to change the "hobbies" entry in my profile soon (to janu C)
Guest guest
it must be really hot....of course the question that comes up is are you heavyset?

You may find it useful in a case of heat exhaustion to hold an icepack on the head when lying down - it works miracles in picking up the energy. I really enjoy practicing on hot days because that's the only way i can get good perspiration going, however outside of practice heat feels like it boils my brain - that's when the icepack works wonders.
