Guest guest
Warriorgirl (and any others interested in injuries):

Regarding that insertion-point hamstring injury that we appear to have both experienced: about six weeks after visiting a (regular old Western) doctor, I'm seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

The doctor assured me that, although the tissue tear would proabably never heal completely, I could still regain a full range of motion, and eventual relief from pain, simply by doing the practice as usual (yippee! -- confirmed the advice of Chamoya and other ashtangi) and not being afraid to really stretch the muscle. He said that the muscle fibers, which had contracted in the weeks after the injury (August 2000) would eventually straighten out and lengthen. He also prescribed a cheap antinflammatory medicine, scarcely stronger than ibuprofin, to blunt the pain.

I'm very nearly back to a full kurmasana, and after a few weeks of discomfort the pain is way down and getting less each day. In a few more weeks I'll taper off the medicine and see how it feels.

So there is hope. Hang in there.

Peace and Good,
Homer
