Guest guest
Hi all

I would like to open a discussion on the methodology of teaching (learning in my case) ashtanga (if there is any). Ashtanga seems so ordered having fixed serieses of postures, but I fail to see such order in teaching (learning) it.

It seems to me that there are two types of ashtanga classes
1. led class in which the teacher guides the students through a series of postures, sometimes concentrating on one subject more than another.
2. self practice (mysore style).

In all, the teacher pass through the students, helping and correcting their postures.

Are these any other "type" of classes?

How do students learn about the principles of the workout? by this I mean ujai, moola bandha, working out the muscles, lengthening the spine, opening the chest, etc.

Is there a systematic way of advancing a student from a beginner to higher levels of the yoga practice? When is the right time for a student to practice the intermediate series? when pranayama? is it all have to do with the personality (and knowledge) of the student and the teacher?

I would appreciate any comments
