Guest guest
shiny

<< I did Iyengar Yoga for three years.>>

Sorry, three years still makes you a relative new-comer.

<<I think that in Astanga Yoga it's PRACTICE what matters, not theory. >>

You still don't get it. In Ashtanga Yoga, aka Raja Yoga, the physical stuff is only 1/4 of the practice. The idea is to practice in the other 3/4 as well.

Look up the term "Svadhyaya" (p101-2, Desikachar's The Heart of Yoga)

This is what Desikachar has to say about Raja Yoga: "It [Yoga] was systematized as a special darsana by the great Indian saga Patanjali in the Yoga Sutra. Althought this work was followed by many other important texts on yoga, Patanjali's Yoga Sutra is certainly the most significant." (p5, Heart of Yoga)

And "To explain yoga I shall refer to the ideas expressed in Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, the guide to yoga practice that I prefer to any other text on yoga." (p9 Heart of Yoga)

Total emphasis on asana and selected pranayama is no longer Ashtanga Yoga, it is an ego-based exercise program. Care to start branching out? Get a copy of Patanjali's Raja Yoga Sutras and start reading.

omprem

P.S. The kleshas are featured prominently in Heart of Yoga
