Guest guest
Hi! I'm J'Lean and I'm new to the group. Iam 22, married, have a 3 yr old son, and live in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. I have been doing yoga for 3 years and am a Teacher in Training at the Canadian yoga Institute. I teach many different styles of yoga, but have a preference for the Ashtanga style as I am also a certified fitness instructor and like the dynamics of this style. I've just met a new instructor at our institute who has taken David Swensons teacher training course in Ashtanga yoga, and I'm learning alot from her. It's my hope to one day be certified in this style of yoga, and I look forward to meeting all of you. Can you recommend any websites related to Ashtanga yoga? Thank you, J'Lean
Guest guest
Greetings, J'Lean!

Scarcely any ashtanga site is more than a click ot two away from Slade's Ashtanga Yoga Links:

http://www.ionet.net/~tslade/yoga.htm

As for certification, at present the only generally-accepted formal procedure involves extensive direct study with Patahbhi Jois in Mysore. Some very good people offer week-long teacher trainings, but they aren't advertised as leading to "certification." Just study with the best folks you can find and have fun!

By the way, as you become more familiar with Ashtanga you may find that it in spite of its physical intensity the practice is not very fitness-oriented.

Peace and Good,
Homer
