I heard that ashtanga yoga was really beneficial

and I would like to try it. I've been looking it up

on the internet and the sights o've found have said

that you need to begin with a trainer. The thing

is....i am away at college right now and have no way of

finding an instructor. I was wondering if there were any

instructionsl videos that anyone could recommend i start with,

or would you all say that i would absolutely NEED a

trainer?
Thanks

Sloegyn-
I started myself from a book, and

waited 6 months to take a class. And believe it or not,

you can pretty easily find an instructor - if you're

in any kind of settled town, there's almost always a

studio to be found somewhere, it's usually the first

thing I find when I move somewhere new. I would

recommend David Swenson's book, and also Beryl Bender's

book Power Yoga. SPW will lay into me for the next 15

posts for this, but that's alright. This book brought

me to yoga, and changed my life forever - I am now a

teacher.
Videos are also an option, although I have

heard that certain videos are a bit overwhelming, and

I've never tried any myself. Anyone have any video

suggestions?
The purists will tell you you need a trainer. It's

safer, it's better, it's more knowledgable, but you can

go without it if you absolutely have to. I know

because I did.
