Guest guest
Namaste. I am new to this club and also fairly new to Ashtanga yoga. I have done other types of yoga, but have felt more of the physical and emotional after effects of Ashtanga than the other types. I am hoping to learn more about Ashtanga, as I really enjoy doing it. I have been doing Ashtanga from the show called Inhale, in which Yogi Steve Ross teaches on the cable program Oxygen. I know this will sound like an inane question, but what difference is there between Hatha and Ashtanga?
Peace to all
A.
Guest guest
Ross is a flexible guy and he's got a lot of hotties doing some nice yoga on his show, but what I've seen there isn't ashtanga. If you don't have a teacher in your area, you can learn a lot about ashtanga from three books, Yoga Mala, David Swenson's practice manual, and John Scott's "Ashtanga Yoga." Check ashtanga.com for book and video resources. Ashtanga rocks and it's worth doing right. Good luck.
Guest guest
You are right Ashtanga does rock and thanks for the info on books and videos. With the physcial strength, it has helped me in my weight loss, built back my muscle and flexiblity. What type of yoga does Ross do, if not Ashtanga?
A. Guest guest
ross seems to skip around, rather than teaching the primry series poses in order, and he tosses in a little intermediate, too. which isn't bad, but it's not strictly ashtanga, it's more of an advanced beginner hatha yoga class. (sorry it took me so long to reply.)
