I am not sure about teachers, but if you look at

ashtanga.net ( A David Swenson web site) they have videos for

the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level series. I read the info

on the videos and they sound pretty good. If I can

not find a class or teacher in Indy I will most

likely use these tapes to continue my practice. Hope

this helps!

It is a common but gross misconception that

Mysore style is an "advanced" practice. The truth is

that nothing could be better for any level of student.

Mysore style is especially suitable for

beginners.

When I read this sort of thing in a class description

I know right away that whoever is "teaching"

probably has not been instructed corectly themselves and

is therefore not likely able to teach anyone BUT

beginners. Anyone with an "advanced" practice would also

pick up on this right away and most likely would not

go to this class - so in spite of their warning of

"prior permission - advanced students only" they have

given their own lack of experience away. Just be aware

that this place is probably not teaching the correct

method but it might be a good place to start.

If

they tell you that you are not ready to start Mysore

style classes, you can tell them that Pattabhi Jois

says that that is exactly where a beginner ought to

start, and that you would like to learn the primary

series of Ashtanga yoga.

FBL
