Hi Annie! I am 29 and have been practicing

Ashtanga Yoga for about two years. I have never found

anything that even compares to this activity. It is both

frustrating and satisfying. I recently bought a few

additional tapes to add to my hopme collection. I am hoping

that I can learn more about Ashtanga from the rest of

the group here. I know I have much to learn...and

more flexibility to gain! :) It's TOUGH!

Are

you familiar with Bryan Kest's tapes? and what do you

think of them? I find his instruction to be very

helpful, and I enjoy the accompanying music and his style.

I have some web pages that may be useful for

finding more

info:

http://www.ionet.net/~tslade/yoga.htm

At the top of that

page are links to my yoga videos

page and yoga books page.

I have a copy of one

of Bryan Kest's videos. I like the feel of the

video, though it is a bit advanced for me. Also, he

isn't really teaching Ashtanga, but his own "version"

of it, which he calls Power Yoga (not to be confused

with everyone else's various "power yogas"). Which is

OK with me, but just good to know the difference.

There are lots of videos on "pure" Ashtanga yoga.

Just looked at the site. All of this is good

information to know. Yes...the kest tapes are tough! I bought

tape #3 in the series first....which is actuially MUCH

easier than #2. I was floored when I put in tape #2 and

it went from sun salutations to (within a few, brief

movements) 'put your head under and artound your left knee'

....:) Whew! Now my goal is to get through that tape.

Looks like I should check out Freeman's tapes as well.

Thanks for the info!

Franki

No, I don't know Brian Kest. Who he? I have

watched various tapes: Lino Miele, D. Swenson, and PJ

himself. I read a lot of books too ... am currently moving

into meditation, and have just 'discovered' Ayerveda

.... it is fascinating.

Does Ashtanga make men

cry? Every now and again it makes me cry, mainly from

frustration. It did today. Is that something that only women

experience? (several of my women friends have 'watery days'

but none of the men of my aquintance)
