Guest guest
NOTICEBOARD of YOGA-RELATED ANNOUNCEMENTS and NEWSLETTER from PURPLE VALLEY YOGA CENTRE, ANJUNA, GOA, INDIA (www.yogagoa.com) where Ashtanga Yoga enthusiasts gather to practise, learn, teach, chat and relax. Dear Ashtanga Enthusiasts and Friends of Purple Valley, EXCITEMENT AND ANTICIPATION FOR PURPLE VALLEY in 2002/03 The first season of Purple Valley finished on 6th April, and the shala is now prepared for the monsoon. The fabric walls and mega mosquito net have been taken down and put away, the canvas floor packed away, and the palm leaf roof is covered with protective plastic. During June, July and August, Goa regularly has 10 cm of rain per day, sometimes much more. After October the rains stop except for very rare showers, and usually there is no rain at all between November and April. So many Ashtanga students have visited us since we opened last November that we already feel on the Ashtanga 'map'. All our visitors almost without exception said that they would tell their yoga friends, and so many said they would return that we are confident that our second season is going to be really quite busy. We had many people coming up from Kerala after finishing a spell with Lino Miele, and we are delighted to say that we also had many students coming direct from Mysore. In fact, Guruji was quoted in an Indian men's health magazine recommending Goa as one of the few places within India where serious Ashtanga can be studied. There is no doubt that word-of-mouth is the best form of publicity, and the combination of top-class teaching and charming location have contributed to Purple Valley's growing and spreading reputation. Our second season starts on 4th November, with 4 classes a day. Details of the centre and package deals are at www.yogagoa.com and details of classes and cost are at: www.yogagoa.com/class.htm PACKAGE DEALS We started to experiment with package deals late in the 2001/2 season, and they quickly proved to be extremely popular. For one price which can be charged to a Visa account, students get accommodation at the Hotel Bougainvillea and an unlimited number of yoga classes selected from any of the 4 being run each day, 6 days a week. We also include airport or railway station transfers in the price. There is also a budget package of unlimited yoga and accommodation at a nearby guest house, about 20 minutes walk away from Purple Valley. Room numbers for both options are limited and we are already taking bookings for next season. If you want a package deal, the procedure is to check with us first that we have vacancies for your preferred dates, then make your travel reservations and then book the package of accommodation and unlimited yoga using your Visa card, once you can tell us when and where you will be arriving in Goa. For help with travel from anywhere in the world you can contact siddesh3020 TEACHERS FOR 2002/03 SEASON We are delighted that Gabriella Pascoli will be teaching at Purple Valley again. She is to be our main Ashtanga teacher for the entire season, from November 4th until we close in April. She will normally be taking two classes a day, with the other two daily classes being taken by which ever teacher we have at the time to supplement Gabriella's work. We hope to have Maia Heiss back for the month of November, and Charlotte Lindstrom will be taking over for December and January at least. All our teachers are students of Guruji and have spent considerable time in Mysore at his shala. They also have commendable amounts of individual teaching experience, and are capable of teaching to the end of second series. THE RETREAT While the Purple Valley drop-in Ashtanga centre continue to flourish at the Bougainvillea location, things are also moving ahead with the second part of the Purple Valley project: The Retreat. We have a location about 3Km from the Bougainvillea in the direction of Mapusa, where we are building a second shala which will be exclusively for workshops and closed groups of students on courses. We expect to have accommodation for 25 students. We have provisional plans for two workshops in the first season, in December and March, with a full schedule of workshops in the next season. (Goa being part of India, it is best not to make too many plans before the new shala is actually completed.) As well as workshops by visiting yoga teachers with significant reputations, the Purple Valley Retreat will also be available to groups, schools and teachers to hire and bring their own students and teachers, with full use of the shala and housekeeping. More details in the autumn. OVER THE SUMMER THE PURPLE VALLEY NOTICEBOARD & NEWSLETTER will be scaled down. Because the Purple Valley drop-in shala is closed until November there will be no newsletter but we will continue to post a regular Noticeboard of announcements. If you have an announcement you would like broadcast over the summer, please email it to annie (Apologies for the delay in this newsletter - it is more than a month since our last one.
