Guest guest
In Stockholm several healthclubs > are now offering > poweryoga and my question is:What is the difference > between the two? > ashtanga".I would really like to share your opinions > on this.Thankyou! I am some what of a new yogini, however my understanding of the two is simple. Ashtanga, as created by Pattabhi Jois, is a concrete set of movements that is the same every time you do it. There are really sound reasons for this. Each one of the series is a well rounded dynamic flow (vinyasa) with its own concentration. Once you master one set then you can begin to dabble into the next...adding on as you go...Mysore style only permits you to add on as you can properly demonstrate the postures in their correct sequencing. Ashtanga even has a particular manner in which you inter, maintain, and exit the posture. concentration is on the breath and number of breaths and the gaze. Each breath is cued and counted by the instructor. There are sound reasons for these sequencings and it is worth your wild to research and learn as much as possible. There is much more precision with Ashtanga than Power Yoga. Power yoga is not so regimented and is a freer style (manner in which you may execute a pose) yet also dynamic and incorporates the same sun salutations but doesn't stay with in a particular flow. From my understanding, Power Yoga is from the Ashtanga "style" yet the postures in any one given class may come from any of the Ashtanga series or other styles of yoga even. The instructor has the freedom to be creative and make their own vinyasa. Both are dynamic and vigerous workouts. Both focus on the Sun Salutations and use the chatarunga dandasana, urhva muka svanasana, adho muka svanasana, and jump backs throughout the flow (forgive the miss-spellings). I would have to say that in my experience I found the true Ashtanga series to much more intense than "power yoga" found at a gym. That is just my experience and means nothing but to me but I thought it maybe interrested to add. I beleive that each person as particular movements that challenge them the most and the Ashtanga series helps you overcome and work through these challenges instead of just moveing quickly through it in a typical power class. I hope that makes sence! I could go on and on but I dont want to bore anyone and If I am incorrect then It would be just too much incorrect information! ha ha I am fairly new to Yoga ( 2 years) ...others out there please feel free to correct me if I am misstaken! I too have a lot to learn. Namaste, Wendy LAUNCH - Your Music Experience http://launch.
