Guest guest
Hello everyone, i'm paul. i'm the new guy. it's nice to have found this site. i'm new to the practice of ashtanga. I live in portland,or and have recently returned after having been abroad for 5 years in asia and india. anyway, my practice now consists of primary series 1 and some of 2. it's going well and the body has responded quite well to the study. I have become aware of the breath, or should I say, my lifelong habit of barely breathing. the first 30 years of my life I didn't know how to breath. I have a question about the spontaneous engaging of ujjaji pranayama. Upon the inhale, where does the tongue naturally lay? I feel like i'm forcing the tongue to recede into the lower jaw. also, is there any nose closure or nasal retention at all? when the nose does close slightly it feel unnatural and hampered. on a side note, a teacher told me the India habit of side head bobbing and the distinct accent of Indian spoken english lends itself to the breathing of ujjaji. I never thought of this, but when I practice it, it really makes sense. anyway, it's nice to be in this group and I hope someone can help with the above question. toodles, paul.
