Guest guest
I train with Barron Baptiste, who trains not only Elizabeth Shue and other Hollywood types, but also football and hockey players. Since Power Yoga has you using practically every muscle in your body, I believe this is a much more extensive work out and will not only keep what you have already toned, but will also work on the other muscles that you have skipped over.....i.e. - why athletes would want to take it - stamina and for general tone. I am completely new at this. So far I am enjoying it. My question is I have been doing weight-resistance training for a year now and my body has really toned up, so I am asking - by doing yoga by itself and no other exercises will my body still remain toned or will I begin to lose it? So far I prefer yoga over weight training but I don't want to lose what I have achieved over the past year. I know Madonna practices yoga and she looks awesome. Guest guest
Thanks Michelle! This Senor has an attitude problem. I just signed up with this for Ashtanga Yoga on Friday, because I am new to it and trying to learn and I come into the office this morning and find these offensive emails from this Senor Piche Wey telling me I AM LOST. This is very disturbing. I appreciate your response but I think I will be unsubscribing from this group. I have your email Michelle, if I have any questions, I will just email you directly. I did not know I was going to be harrassed by asking a simple innocent question. I just read a couple of other emails that he sent to other people, this Senor seems very aggressive and ready to attack people and judge them. I can't tell you how disappointing this is. What happened to the SPIRITUALITY aspect of yoga? I do believe it is SENOR that is LOST, not me. Guest guest
Michelle, I haven't checked this board in awhile and like TSlade (hey man!), I am happy to see that there is discussion going on. I am extremely disappointed that it is same old bullshit. Up to a point I will agree with the Senor: This is not the place for an instructor of a similiar, but distinctly different yoga discipline to engage in a discussion of methodology of teaching that discipline. I have just returned to yoga, after years of laying off and in poor health. I chose Astanga Yoga, not Power Vinyasa Yoga, Bikram Yoga, but Astanga. I hate having my time wasted and I cannot tell the number of hours I have spent going over videos, text, and websites of those porporting to be Astangi, but in reality something else. Having said all of that, I do not think that even in this discipline/science that we should close our eyes and minds to what others are doing in their pursuits. If I believe wholeheartedly in Astanga, then how does what a bodybuilder is doing in his system to supplement themselves, e.g., applicable to me in Astanga? Or how does what Baron Baptiste is doing in his hybrid discipline relate to what I am doing in mine? When considered in this regard, I cannot agree with the Senor. There is no reason to stoop to name calling or mine is bigger than yours (it may be, but that's another post). I urge you to reconsidered dropping from this group. And, dear God, this is an Internet Website how on God's green earth are you going to become entrapped into a cult over the damn internet!! Is your mind that fragile? I hope that you will still bring back your original questions, Wendy and Michelle, and let's get it out there. Guest guest
Who in the hell cares who Baron has trained? And all of his name- dropping is in reference to clients he had years ago, not recently. His biggest asset is that he has retained a good PR firm. Also, everyone knows that Rolf teaches a better class than him anyway. For the record, what Baron offers a blend of Bikram (the 110 deg room) Ashtanga (the sun salutations) and whatever other flavor he feels like adding. It is absolutely in no way Ashtanga. There is no flow, no series. What many people love about Ashtanga is that because of the series, you will have an opportunity to improve and advance with an asana that you may find particularly difficult, whereas with "power yoga" you may never get a chance to revisit it. Also, one last thing. I started out 3 years ago with power yoga and left it to develop in to a very dedicated ashtangi. I've come to the conclusion that power yoga has been tailored to meet the needs of all the westerners that have ADD. Peace out. ashtangayoga, Zeke <zekes7> wrote: > Michelle, > > I haven't checked this board in awhile and like TSlade (hey > man!), I am happy to see that there is discussion going on.
