Fundamentalism in Ashtanga Yoga leads to the black and white thinking of Senor

Senor Pinche Wey has returned right after Eddie Stern came

back from India. What a coincidence! Senor is preaching that

his method of yoga is the one true method. He believes that all

others lead to insanity. This is the way he creates $$$$$ for

guru and dependence for the groupies.

This approach has been used many times before throughout the

history of man. The patterns of this kind of spiritual abuse can

be found in the work of Margaret Singer:

Dear Inyoga:

First of all, I heard reports that Mr. Stern is in Mysore with Guruji

celebrating the new school opening. So that is the beginning of your

series of errors and erroneous remarks.

Secondly, I never "preach" about yoga, nor do I claim my own method.

I practice Ashtanga as taught by Pattabhi Jois. I have tried other

methods and have seen people that have strayed from the correct

method. Let me distinguish between the two. First, There are many

excellent methods of yoga all of which have the same goal. Iyengar,

Sivinanda, and other hybrids such as Anusara Yoga, (taught by John

Friend) etc. I have no problem with these other methods and

congratulate all who choose a system and stick with it.

I do have a problem with those unqualified teachers (you know who you

are!) who claim to teach ashtanga yet have never been to Mysore or

studied with Guruji or worse those who believe that they have somehow

improved upon his system.

As for you ranting about cults and brain washing, why not accuse me

of being a nazi or a terrorist? You are obviously desperately

reaching for straws. I have no interest in cult worship or

mindlessly following a guru. I am interested in pursuing a

discipline taught by an exemplary human being who has studied all

aspects of yoga for over 70 years.

I hope these comments clarify some of your misconceptions.

Ole!
