Guest guest
Has anyone had any luck in finding videos that are true Ashtanga? I have yet to find a video that follows the primary series. Everything seems to be "power yoga", and that is not what I'm looking for. There are no classes nearby and I have memorized the series through a book, but I would love to see it in motion. TIA. -Amanda **I'm new to this group, but based on the posts today, I'm bracing myself for criticism**

Guest guest
Amanda: Swenson and Freeman are excellent. Don't sweat the hash slinging. - -- In ashtangayoga, "Amanda Hofeditz" <amanda@p...> wrote: > Has anyone had any luck in finding videos that are true Ashtanga? Guest guest
Try the Richard Freeman Video or the video shot of a Primary Class of Guruji in the late 80s at yoga works. Also, not to be missed is a hisorical video of Mr. Iyengar and Krishnamacharya practicing yoga in 1936 available through the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco. You will learn that old Mr. Iyengar is an Ashtangi at heart as he breezes through Advanced ashtanga asanas in the vinyasa tradiition. It is amazing and my favorite video of all time. Guest guest
Senor, I finally got the Iyengar/Krishnamacharya video, after reading so much about it on this board. It certainly is an amazing and inspiring thing. From reading the comments here, I had not realized that, in addition to showing Iyengar, there is also actual footage of Krishnamacharya practicing! But, after watching the video, I am also baffled that so many have classed Iyengar's practice on that video as "ashtanga"-like. True, the poses that he is performing are recognizable from ashtanga sequences. But then, so are just about all the poses shown in "Light on Yoga" - and nobody ever says that that is an "ashtanga" book. And, I find it particularly puzzling that you, the arch-dogmatist, would claim this as an "ashtanga" practice, when there is, so far as I can tell, no evidence on the tape that he is following any set sequence or that he is otherwise following the ashtanga "method". So I guess my question is this: exactly what about this video do you identify as peculiarly "ashtanga" as opposed to any other type of hatha yoga practice? ashtangayoga, senor_pinche_wey <no_reply> wrote: > Try the Richard Freeman Video or the video shot of a Primary Class of > Guruji in the late 80s at yoga works. Guest guest
The asanas were directly out of 3rd and 4th series and connected by vinyasas. The sequence is different as when Sharath does a demonstration. It is a beautiful and inspiring video, whatever you call their asanas, which like roses are just as sweet no matter what you call them. ole! ashtangayoga, malsag <no_reply> wrote: > Senor, > I finally got the Iyengar/Krishnamacharya video, after reading so > much about it on this board.
