Guest guest
I started Ashtanga yoga about 18 months ago. I too, was looking at first for a good "physical workout," but with a bit more to help stop the chatter in my head. As an Aries and by nature I am rather competitive. I have had the PRIVILIDGE of learning Ashtanga from a teacher who has learned under Pattabi Jois and who has taught me to learn Mysore Ashtanga. I do get a great physical workout, but I also get so much more. I have learned that I need my teacher to have the experience to teach me in the proper manner. I have learned from him the true meaning of "letting go" and that has applied to so many more aspect then just a pose. I have had to learn to let of my competitive nature on the mat in "getting to the next pose" or when observing another who is progressing so much better in their practice then I am (where I feel I should be). I have learned to listen to my body through my practice and when I am tired I rest and when I am sad I cry and it is ok. I had the greatest experience of my life on September 4th and 5th to go to NYC and do Ashtanga with Pattabi Jois. It was a thrill of a lifetime and I will never forget it. I also watched my son graduate from the US Navy the next day and watched NYC be bombed like everyone else. I was supose to be there that morning with my friends and teacher. I have had to say goodbye to my son as he departed for Afghanistan to protect our nation. I would NEVER have been able to do any of these things and go forward if I had not stayed with mysore in the tradition it was taught to my teacher and then passed to me. I will be eternally grateful for this tradition. It is more then just a pose. Ariesbabe
Guest guest
Wo, that is unbelieveble. Your post and the earlier one about the mantra are really beautiful and moving. I am so glad that you have been able to internalize the practice in a meaningful and positive way. That is what happens when you practice the correct method. You have been graced by the guru and no one can understand it who has not studied with him and no one can take that away. I hope your son is alright after his experience. You must be proud.
