Guest guest
Welcome to Ashtanga! It is a great practice and you will learn so many things about yourself and your body that you never knew existed. The greatest lesson that I had to, and still have to learn, is "letting go." Letting go of my expectations of my body, my practice, and the girl on the matt next to me. Being a very competitive personality, I am always fighting with myself to slow down and master each pose to the best of my ability. For a long time I judged my practice according to what someone else could do and that was so wrong. Now, I I go to my matt and I pray for strength and mental clarity and I let go of the rest. With a dedicated practice you will find yourself getting more limber and the hamstrings will not be so tight. Just remember to breathe..............slowly and deeply. Try to push yourself a little more each practice, but don't keep going if you are feeling pain. I had days when I didn't think I was going to be able to walk up a flight of stairs after practicing, but now 2 years later, I am much more limber. I have a tremendous amount of trouble with my hip area being so inflexible and that limits me from binding and some other positions that I want to get to. Again, I really need to "practice" my letting go of expectations and accept what is. Hang in there!
